Publicizing Ithaca Generator News & Events

In general, communicating on behalf of Ithaca Generator is so appreciated. The voice of Ithaca Generator is a collective one, and is characterized by the diversity of contributors and messages that we have to share. With that said, here are a few ways to stay on-brand and maintain a consistent voice and tone for the organization:

  • Keep it clear, concise, and enthusiastic.
  • Keep it short and clear, but don’t forget the who, what, where, when and why. Include information about whether the event or initiative is for members only or includes the public, costs, time commitment, expectations, etc.
  • If it’s a personal story, or you need to use “I” or “me,” own it. Put your name on it.

Thanks for being a super amazing member and organizing an event or initiative! To get word out, here are a few things you can do:

Specific action items:

Not every event needs all of these, but these are in order of their importance for consistency of the IG brand.

Add your event on our website. If you are not a credentialed user for ithacagenerator.org, contact Allison, Sarah, or Elliot to get your event added to the website. If you don’t have their contact info, email info@ithacagenerator.org. Please include an event title, event description, date, time, duration, and whether or not not registration is required. If it is, include registration requirements (registration caps, deadlines, registrant info necessary, etc.)

Add your event to Facebook. Please contact a board member for Facebook page administration credentials, then add your event to the Ithaca Generator Facebook page.

Submit it to the newsletter. Send to news@ithacagenerator.org to include it in the next installment of the Ithaca Generator newsletter.

Create a poster or flyer. There is no set person that creates branded materials for IG, or set brand strategy. But be clear, concise, enthusiastic, and positive. You can use the Ithaca Generator logo embedded on the right. Don’t forget a call to action– an action-oriented phrase like “build a robot!”, “learn woodworking skills!”, or “register for the workshop!” and a URL, email address, or other way of taking the next step.

Share to media outlets. Register for events.visitithaca.com and add an event there. Submit to the Ithaca Voice by emailing tips@ithacavoice.com, or other media outlets.
