On Saturday, July 5th we participated in a “Made in America Fest” in Press Bay Alley. Pressbay Alley, for those who haven’t seen it yet, is a new micro-retail spot on Green Street just west of Cayuga in Ithaca NY.
We were thrilled to be included because we see makerspaces playing an important role in the “Handmade in America” movement. The festival featured goods from permanent residents of “The Alley” like Amuse Artisan Gifts, Boxy Bikes Electric Bike Co, and Life’s So Sweet Chocolates as well as stuff from makers who set up shop in the pop-up retail space.
Down in the makerspace we had a few things going on: Casper and Mark were manufacturing lovely little boxes on the zing which were immediately for sale; Chris W was printing a gorgeous vase on the 3D printer; and Xanthe held a product development meetup to talk with folks who have their own micro retail ideas. In addition to all of that, we gave tours to dozens of visitors who left the space inspired by the desktop manufacturing tools we showed them.
Thanks to all who organized and attended the event. And for those who didn’t make it, we have this message:
“The future is here, people. Come on down for a visit!”
